Bio

Before I moved to New York City, I was living in Tokyo and working as a graphic designer. I spent all of my time on work, and didn't allow myself time to enjoy anything outside of work. At the time, I believed achieving career goals was the only thing that mattered. Since moving here in 2011, however, I've spent more time running, painting, and cooking. Everything other than work. A minute in Tokyo is the same as a minute in New York, but it feels so different. I feel much more alive.I take photographs of the sky from the same spot during my run every morning, and even though I'm always in the same place, around the same time, the sky is always different. And it made me realize that I am different too, aging day by day. Finding new gray hairs or new wrinkles. If you look closely enough, nothing is truly mundane. Every moment is precious, even when we're locked inside under quarantine. In early March of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit New York City. It was the beginning of a long journey in a new world. With the city on lockdown, I was stuck in my small studio apartment in Brooklyn everyday, absorbing the bad news. I wonder how I could adapt to this new normal without feeling overwhelmed.
